A 5th Edition for Le Dîner en Blanc - Honolulu

Le Dîner en Blanc - Honolulu returns this year to celebrate its 5th edition! Indeed, the very first edition took place in 2014 at one of the most spectacular monuments of the capital: the Iolani Palace. A success from the start, the following editions built and affirmed the reputation of the event.

Hawaii is famous for its breathtaking landscapes, fine sandy beaches with multiple colors, waterfalls, tropical forest, and spectacular cliffs, offering the perfect surroundings to render Le Dîner en Blanc-Honolulu spectacular every year.

However, Le Dîner en Blanc - Honolulu would not be what it is without its hosting team composed of Aubrey Akana, Maleko McDonnell and Malie Moran. On the occasion of this milestone we asked them to answer our 5-year/5-questions questionnaire to find out more about the love story between Le Diner en Blanc and Honolulu.

How did you come to organize Le Dîner en Blanc?
One of our organizers was invited to Los Angeles edition in 2013 and asked if we could bring it to Hawaii. And to our delightful surprise, 750 people came together to dine under the Hawaiian skies for our inaugural year.

How is Le Dîner en Blanc different from any other event in which you’ve been involved?
The event is built on friendship and elegance with no strings attached. When the culmination of efforts comes together, and you see the fashion, decor, food, etc., that hundreds of people have prepared, and the experience is indescribable.

What is it about your city that embraced the concept so enthusiastically?
Hawaii is a place known for embracing the outdoors and our natural surroundings. We don’t have the historic architecture of other cities so we celebrate the raw beauty of the island. The spirit of Le Dîner en Blanc—enjoying a sophisticated picnic with family and friends in the outdoors—is something that people here love and have fully embraced.

What is your proudest or most memorable Le Dîner en Blanc moment?
There are so many moments, but many of those who have been with us for the last 5 years would agree that dining and dancing at the Iolani Palace (location of the first one) was absolutely breathtaking and ethereal.

How has Le Dîner en Blanc evolved in your city over the past five years? Where do you see it heading in the future?
Le Dîner en Blanc has evolved from just an idea—something that we hoped we could do successfully—into one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. We consistently receive inquiries and sell out within just a few hours after opening up our wait list. This success has exceeded our wildest expectations, and we are so proud and honored to be able to showcase the beauty of Hawaii through this event.

If you could go to any Le Dîner en Blanc in the world, which city would you visit?
The 30th Anniversary of PARIS in June was amazing so next would be Montreal, of course! (Malie Moran attended the Montreal 10th Anniversary edition on August 16th.)

See you on September 1st to discover the secret location of this new edition!
