Le Dîner en Blanc has Wrapped Up its 2016 Canadian Series

The close of the 2016 Canadian Dîner en Blanc season came on August 25th, with two events happening simultaneously in Montreal and in Victoriaville. For Victoriaville, this was the first ever event, and it was a great success. Meanwhile, Le Dîner en Blanc de Montreal held its 8th edition on one of the most iconic spaces in the heart of the city: McGill College Avenue.  Fun fact: Montreal was the first city to follow in the Parisian tradition back in 2009, bringing the concept to North America for the first time.

Victoriaville wasn’t the only new Canadian city to join Le Dîner en Blanc family this year. 2016 saw Ottawa host their inaugural event in the nation’s capital weeks earlier at City Hall.
Not to mention the eleven other Canadian cities that returned this year, better than ever!

The Dîner en Blanc season started in June in Victoria, British Columbia. The event then made its way to the eastward, with stops in the Okanagan Valley (BC), Edmonton (AL), Calgary (AL), Sherbrooke (QC), Quebec City (QC), Moncton (NB), Edmundston (NB), and more.  Fun fact: as the smallest of these participating Canadian cities, Edmundston held one of the most successful events, with over 900 guests in attendance. Way to go!

2012 was the year that the phenomenon of Le Dîner en Blanc really took off across the world. It was also the same year Vancouver and Toronto both jumped in and held their first event, which meant that both cities celebrated their 5th anniversary this summer—and on the same night, too! Vancouver brought the dining experience to 6,000 guests gathered at Concord Pacific. Toronto set up for a beautiful night under the stars at the Canary District. When asked about their event’s legacy, host Jessica Tan shared her favourite Dîner en Blanc moment: “Our first year, 1400 people showed up in the rain to create one of the most spectacular nights I've experienced. As everyone finally sat down for dinner, the skies cleared. What ensued was indescribable. The energy and atmosphere created by our guests was something we had never experienced in Toronto. It was contagious!”

As cooler months begin to set in, Canada is left with the warm, beautiful memories that were made this summer. Visit these cities’ Facebook pages to get a glimpse of this year’s gorgeous venues, fashions, foods, and the even more remarkable smiling faces of the guest who brought Le Dîner en Blanc to life.

Until next year, Canada!
