One-of-a-Kind Sculpture for Le Dîner en Blanc - Honolulu

On September 1st, 2018, Le Dîner en Blanc – Honolulu celebrated its 5th anniversary. The event took place on the North Coast of Oahu at Turtle Bay Resort. Nearly 2,000 people came together to toast this anniversary edition for which the theme this year was: sustainability. Artist Aurora Robson created a unique sculpture from oceanic debris collected on the shores of Oahuah by the Sustainable Coastline Hawaii.

Born in Maui, Aurora Robson has been creating thematic pieces for several related to the environment. The artist uses recycled plastic waste for her sculptures, paintings and/or collages. Spending Her childhood in Hawaii has made her appreciate of the raw beauty of the islands and well-aware of the threat to it by climate change. Through her art, Aurora wants to make people aware of the urgency to act, by spreading the message for future generations.

Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii estimates that today the worst invader of the seas is plastic with 77% of this material found in the oceans. This plastic comes mainly from our daily use of food packaging, caps, lids and plastic bags.

This initiative by Le Dîner en Blanc - Honolulu to highlight sustainability and the environment is at the heart of the event’s concept. Le Dîner en Blanc is a picnic where participants are asked to bring their gourmet meals as well as all the accessories necessary for dinner: tablecloth, napkins, glasses, plates, etc. The elegant event requires that all accessories be in reusable material, plastic being prohibited.

Le Dîner en Blanc and its organizers are committed to this environmental cause. It is the beauty of the planet as well as its landscapes and prestigious sites that give Le Dîner en Blanc its magic and make these evenings under the stars truly unforgettable.
